Minister Rolanda Harris is the point of contact for the Bereavement Ministry. Minister Rolanda Harris is a dedicated and humble servant of God. She has been a member of First Baptist since 2002. She was called into the ministry in 2009. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of South Alabama in Mobile in 1997 and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2001. Minister Harris has over nine years of counseling experience with over six of those years in grief and end-of life issues. She continues to broaden her knowledge of grief and loss, yearly by attending numerous seminars and in services on the subject. It is a passion of Minister Harris' that those who mourn shall be comforted.
It is the desire of this Ministry to comfort and assist people at the time of their grief, to make them aware of the support services of the Church that are available to them if needed. In so doing we provide spiritual comfort, consolation and encouragement in their time of need.
In addition, the Bereavement Ministry provides pre-bereavement counseling to any church member who may have a loved one diagnosed with a terminal illness. The Bereavement Minister educates families on Advance Directives such as Living Will, Health Care Surrogate, Do Not Resuscitate Order, and Durable Power of Attorney if needed.
The Bereavement Ministry offers a grief workshop, “Coping with the Holidays Following a Loss” to prepare members for the holiday season.
If anyone is interested in volunteering in the Bereavement Ministry, a volunteer training will be offered. For more information call Minister Rolanda Harris at 850-341-9252 or 850-456-8420.
